Twitter, Facebook, texting, cell phones, and even land line phones all failed us during a wicked wind burst that hit DC area last night.

Radio, the media that has been servicing the public since the early 1900's - long before the golden Internet era - continues to broadcast during emergencies, disasters and weather nightmares.

WTOP 103.5 in DC announced that Dulles Airport's computer system is shut down, some 911 systems
out, Tyson's Corner Mall A/C is out, and over one million customers are without power. Hurricane Katrina had impacted power for 750,000 customers. Temperatures soared to 104 degrees in some areas yesterday. The public is bracing for the next wave of an anticipated 110 degree heat index.

Damage included 40 trees up routed in Congressional Country Club.

Stock up on batteries and if you don't have a good old-fashioned radio at home and work, get one.
