Reuniting high school friends after 35 years

It was like time didn't pass even though it had been 35 years.  Giggling like school girls, the gang met up and gabbed about the past and the present. The days of cheering, marching, and clubs were long gone but the stories lived on in the night of our Lancaster Catholic HS Reunion.

Disco and rock and roll of our era thumped in the background as we nibbled on buffet food and sipped country club cocktails.  Some of us cut a rug on the dance floor not caring about our mature age and let our hair down.  The clicks were gone and the jocks were not noticed but the so-called nerds now seemed to rule the world.

Saying goodbye at the end of the night of laughing and chatting left me with an appetite.  Thank goodness for the 24 hour Jennie's Diner where we reflected while devouring dippy eggs and crunchy bacon.

Why boys love the sea

No matter what their ages, boys seem to get a kick out of boats and fishing. Stick a male near anything with an engine and their world is complete.

The humming of an outboard while heading out to sea to reel in some blues, sea bass, or even a lizard fish is bliss to boys and men. Baiting a hook, dodging a rain shower, or eating snacks -- it's all simple fun -- the kind that leaves long-lasting memories for all ages.  Good  times in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Fall Beach Bumming in South Carolina

Nothing can be finer than visiting Carolina with family in the fall season.  Myrtle Beach, South Carolina beaches are slightly busy, some water parks are still operating, and the ducks are all awaiting morsels of food. Fall temperatures climb to the 80s to welcome fisherman, golfers, families, and brave swimmers -- including my grandsons.

The last chance of summer was a treat as Halloween creeps up at the end of October. Winter is coming, but Myrtle's cold season is mild and shorts should always be handy for strolls on the beach looking for treasures.

Do you plan cold season get-aways?  If so, where?

Memories of summer

Taking baby Jax on a golf cart ride in Delaware was a highlight of my summer.  He is such a sweetie pie and gets a kick out of his Pop Pop's funny faces.  Good bye summer!

Last Summer Fling

Burgers, golf cart rides, scenic waterways, and hugs wrapped up the summer of 2013 for our family.  Delaware, one of the family summer retreats, was the natural choice to hang out and enjoy the last days of summer.

Only one of six daughters could join us -- the Biology major.  Nice to spoil her -- much needed pedicure was snuck into the schedule. When you have a big family, it's nice to spend time with one at a time. I heard dreams, school issues, and a request to attend morning Mass.

The stray Shore Kitty made his farewell visit for one final treat before a winter of being an outdoor mouser.  Corn stalks are browning, some trees are sporting color, and days are getting shorter. Before we know it, crisp fall breezes will be whisking through the air.

College: pondering the future

The bedroom had been hastily packed, the dog had been snuggled, and now the freshman college child is at her new destiny.

Tiny appliances, favorite clothes, and precious momentos await to be arranged in the small but cozy dorm room overlooking the urban streets of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Richmond, Va.

No tears were shed at the final goodbye, but a plan to return home to visit in a week was penciled into the freshman agenda.

New rules and maps swirled the mind of the teen ready to burst into the "I'm free!" dance as family drives away.  Being on her own is the perfect opportunity to learn her strengths and weaknesses.
