Christmas buzzkill: fear of the fiscal cliff

I have not bought one thing for Christmas yet.  What do you buy 7 grown children and their families?  Every year I throw out the idea of - just money.  However, when the "Big Day" gets here, I love the sight of festive wrapping paper and ribbons flying through the air while loved ones tear into their gifts.

Christmas is supposed to be the season of giving -- not really receiving.  Some people have lost sight of this concept.  The fiscal cliff may have something to do with that change in mindset.  Many people are frightened about the nose dive our country could take in the next few years. The numbers adding up in our national debt are mind-boggling.

A gift, for many, is now something needed.  Many people are doing without, so gifts replace some of the necessities. Yes, money would be the best gift -- but I am venturing out as as thoughtful shopper for a few gifts that focus on needs, not wants, this year.  That way the paper and bows will be flying this year with a hint of green in a card.
